Measuring temperatures.

چکیده

Probably the most common approach in the industry, particularly for frozen blocks, is to drill and probe. This doesn’t really measure “freeze time”, but it does tell the operator what the approximate core temperature is at the end of the freezing cycle. “Temperature Measurement and Fish”, the Torry Advisory Note of J.Graham (1977), gives a good account of these practices. The procedure for drill-and-probe is this: Remove the frozen product from the freezer or cold store and immediately drill a deep (4 inches or more) small-diameter hole only slightly larger than the diameter of your temperature sensor. If the active part of the sensor is right at its tip, and if it contacts the bottom of the hole long enough for everything to equilibrate (maybe a minute or so), then you can expect to measure temperatures within 1 °F of the true core temperature. However if done wrong, errors can reach 35 °F (Graham, 1977; Johnston et al 1994). Our own demonstrations with frozen surimi blocks have found that temperatures can easily vary from “right-on” to 10-12 °F too high.

Technique for continuously monitoring core body temperatures to prevent heat stress disorders in workers engaged in physical labor.

OBJECTIVES Measuring core body temperature is crucial for preventing heat stress disorders in workers. We developed a method for measuring auditory canal temperatures based on a thermocouple inserted into a sponge-type earplug. We verified that the tip of this thermocouple is positioned safely, allowing the wearer to engage in normal physical tasks; this position averaged 6.6 mm from the tympan...

Temperature dependence of DNA persistence length

We have determined the temperature dependence of DNA persistence length, a, using two different methods. The first approach was based on measuring the j-factors of short DNA fragments at various temperatures. Fitting the measured j-factors by the theoretical equation allowed us to obtain the values of a for temperatures between 5°C and 42°C. The second approach was based on measuring the equili...

Irradiated Single Crystals for High Temperature Measurements in Space Applications

While spacecrafts experience temperatures from -120 to 110°C on the orbit, their surface reaches extremely high temperatures, well above 1000 °C, during descent into the atmosphere due to aerodynamic heating. Sophisticated insulation systems are designed for thermal protection. One of the steps in designing a protection system is experimental temperature measurements. Neutron flux induces point...
